From Nameless to Super Typhoon.
We divide tropical cyclones into Nameless, Tropical Storm, Severe Tropical Storm, Typhoon, Severe Typhoon, Super Typhoon 6 levels, divided according to Max Wind near the center.
| The class | Max Wind | wind force |
|---|---|---|
| Nameless (TD) | 10.8-17.1 m/s | Level of 6-7 |
| Tropical Storm (TS) | 17.2-24.4 m/s | 8 to 9 levels |
| Severe Tropical Storm (STS) | 24.5-32.6 m/s | Level 10 to 11 |
| Typhoon (TY) | 32.7-41.4 m/s | 12 to 13 levels |
| Severe Typhoon (STY) | 41.5-50.9 m/s | 14 to 15 levels |
| Super Typhoon (SuperTY) | ≥51.0 m/s | 16 and above. |
What is wind speed?
- 17.2 m/s (8): Difficulty walking with the wind, Branches broken
- 32.7 m/s (12): Rare land, great destruction
- 51 m/s (16): approximately 184 km/h, close to high-speed rail
- The most severe typhoon in history such as 2013"Haiyan", the peak wind speed estimated to be more than 70 m/s
"Typhoon " and "Typhoon " are two things.
- code (e.g. 202509) : The ninth tropical cyclone that reached the Tropical Storm grade in that year, is the "ID"
- The class (such as Super Typhoon) : Intensity level, will change with Typhoon
Other International Standards
