Typhoon CHAMPI weakens to a severe tropical storm and is expected to turn near Zhejiang
Typhoon CHAMPI, the 30th typhoon of this year, has weakened to a severe tropical storm. It is expected to move north-northeast at 15 kilometers per hour, then turn northeast over the waters near eastern Zhejiang, heading toward southwestern Japan and gradually becoming extratropical. Although it is not expected to make landfall in China, its combined effects with cold air could bring strong winds and heavy rain to coastal areas of East China.
