Typhoon Dianmu (2010 No. 4) formed over the eastern Philippine Sea on August 8, 2010, at 11:00. Its initial position was 23°N, 124.7°E. Track sample data show that the typhoon generally moved steadily toward the NNW before gradually turning toward the NE. Early after formation, from August 8 to the early hours of August 9, its center moved rapidly north from 23°N to 24.7°N with little change in longitude, indicating that the steering flow mainly drove it northward. From 09:00 on August 9 to 20:00 on August 10, its center advanced continuously north from 25.8°N to 33°N, while its longitude fluctuated narrowly between 125°E and 125.7°E.
