Today's Typhoon Situation Overview

Typhoon activity in the western North Pacific remains vigorous as late October begins. As of this evening, Typhoon No. 30 of the year, CHAMPI, remains at the super typhoon level and is steadily approaching the eastern coast of China. Under the influence of its outer circulation, multiple strong-wind warnings have been issued across Taiwan, China, Fujian, and other coastal areas. The relevant provincial emergency response authorities have activated typhoon emergency responses, underscoring the formidable potential of this autumn typhoon.

Dynamic Analysis of Active Typhoon CHAMPI

Typhoon No. 30 of the year, CHAMPI, is currently located over the western North Pacific at 18.6°N, 129°E. Its observed central pressure has fallen to 905 hPa, while the maximum sustained wind speed near the center has reached 68 m/s, indicating extremely powerful intensity.

In terms of movement, CHAMPI is advancing northwest at 19 km/h. Although its center is gradually approaching the sea east of Taiwan, bringing violent gusts to Lanyu, Green Island, and Penghu in Taiwan, as well as Quanzhou in Fujian, the latest track forecast indicates that it is expected to turn over the waters northeast of Taiwan around October 24. Official forecasts show that its center will reach approximately 35.4°N, 139°E by the afternoon of October 26, when it will weaken to a tropical storm. Its main area of impact will subsequently shift toward Japan.

Public Focus on the Typhoon

At present, the greatest concern among the public is the final track of CHAMPI. Autumn typhoons often reach great intensity and follow complex paths, prompting many residents to compare CHAMPI with YAGI, which made landfall in China in 2024, and to worry about its potential destructive power. In addition to coastal areas, strong-wind warnings have also been issued in inland locations such as Zoige, Sichuan, and Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia. Public attention has therefore turned to the complex effects of strong winds that may result from the combination of CHAMPI's outer circulation and cold air moving into northern China, affecting inland and northern regions.

Weather Defense Advisory

Although CHAMPI is likely to turn toward Japan later, its massive circulation will still bring strong winds and heavy rain to the coastal areas of Taiwan, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Shanghai in the days leading up to its turn. Vessels engaged in offshore operations should return to port and shelter promptly, while coastal fish farmers should reinforce their facilities. Coastal residents should close doors and windows securely, properly secure outdoor objects that may be affected by strong winds, guard against falling objects from height, and minimize unnecessary outdoor activities.

Weather systems can change rapidly. Please refer to the warnings issued by the CMA and local government authorities for the latest information.
