Today's Typhoon Situation Overview
As Typhoon No. 19, “NARRA,” weakened and was no longer tracked this evening, the rare period of simultaneous activity by multiple typhoons in the northwest Pacific and nearby waters officially came to an end. At present, only Typhoon No. 18, “SAUDEL,” remains active in the region. Under the combined influence of SAUDEL and NARRA's residual circulation, South and East China are experiencing severe wind and rain. This coincides with an astronomical high tide, making the overall typhoon situation extremely challenging.
Analysis of Active Typhoon Conditions
Typhoon No. 18, “SAUDEL,” is currently over the East China Sea at 28.4°N, 126.4°E, with a central pressure of 955 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 42 m/s, maintaining severe typhoon intensity. It is moving westward at 11 km/h, has entered the 24-hour warning area and is heading directly toward the coastlines of Zhejiang and Fujian. According to the official track forecast, it will gradually weaken and is expected to reach approximately 25.61°N, 112.89°E at 16:00 on August 30, when it will weaken into a tropical depression. Affected by its outer cloud system, Shanghai and other areas will experience “more wind than rain,” with coastal gusts reaching Beaufort Force 7 to 8.

There is widespread public concern about the compounded disaster risk created by the convergence of strong winds, heavy rain and storm surge. As the region is experiencing its monthly astronomical high tide, coastal storm-surge water levels have risen significantly. Numerous areas in Zhejiang have urgently elevated their typhoon emergency response levels, with some gradually implementing “five suspensions,” including suspending work, classes, businesses, construction and certain public services. Information on transport adjustments, including the suspension of high-speed rail services in the Yangtze River Delta and the suspension of high-speed ferry services, is also a major focus for public inquiries and discussion.
Coastal Typhoon Safety Reminders
