Typhoon Mawar (202302) began its life cycle at 14:00 on May 20, 2023, over the Northwest Pacific, with an initial position in the low-latitude region (5.8°N, 149.1°E). From formation through May 26, the system mainly followed a stable west-northwest track. Analysis of its coordinate sequence shows that it moved steadily westward from 149.1°E to 139.3°E and gradually northward from 5.8°N to 15.1°N, indicating that it traveled a long distance across the open ocean under the steering flow on the south side of the subtropical high.
The data show that after the Typhoon center reached near 132.2°E, the W entry rate slowed significantly, and gradually shifted toward N as well as NE.
