In the early morning of August 10, after the Zhejiang Taizhou Mountain Landfall, the path took a significant turn. Guided by ground friction and atmospheric rings, the Typhoon passed through ZhejiangGo to Jiangsu, then along the East coastal N. On the evening of August 11, after the second Landfall in Shandong Qingdao, continued toward N deeper inland, eventually at August 13 in the Bay of Bohai to weaken disperse.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
Lekima’s Intensity evolution has undergone three stages of “fast enhancement – peak maintenance – landfall weakening”. Starting from the August 4th Tropical Storm (18m/s, 996hPa), the system exploded in just three days. August 7th night has reached Severe Typhoon level (48m/s) and upgraded to Super Typhoon on August 8th. August 9th at 00 am reached the peak of life history, the center lowest air pressure dropped to 915hPa, max wind up to 62m/s. Even on the eve of the August 10th Landfall, its Intensity has remained at Super Typhoon level (52m/s, 930hPa) , showing extremely strong structural stability.
After the landfall, the intensity declined sharply, dropping to Severe Tropical Storm (28m/s) on the afternoon of August 10, but it is worth noting that it did not dissipate immediately on the N, but rather with Tropical StormIntensity (about 23m/s) long about the transportation of steam to the Chinese region, until August 13 weakened into Tropical Depression.
Its peak air pressure (915hPa) was low at 2013’s Lekima (920hPa), high-performance at 2007’s (975hPa) and 2001’s (949hPa) same-name Typhoon.
