The critical transition occurred after October 3. As Kong-Rey moved north of 20°N, it gradually escaped the subtropical high’s control and began turning northward. On October 5, its center reached approximately 31.4°N while its longitude remained near 126°E, indicating a transition to a northward turn. It then accelerated northeast under the influence of the forward flow ahead of a westerly trough, reaching the mid- to high-latitude eastern Pacific at 41.6°N, 151.6°E on October 7, where it weakened and dissipated. Throughout its entire lifecycle, Kong-Rey never made landfall and remained over the open ocean.
