Typhoon Khanun gradually weakened and was numbered off on 2017-10-16 14:00:00 was numbered off; its lifecycle recorded 85 track points.
Typhoon Khanun (201720)'s life history began at 11 October 2017 at 20am in the Nameless stage, initial Position position at lat 16.6°N, 131.4°. In the formed early, the system as a whole presented a stable W-line Trend, crossing the Philippines Lusong Island N section and at 13 October at the early morning completed the first Landfall. Go to the S sea area, its Moving path showed significant NW toward deviation characteristics. From 13 October 14 to 15th 17am sampling data can be seen, the latitude from 17.4°N gradually increased to 20.6°N, followed by the duration from 119.8°EW continuously to 112.6°E, showing that the system crossing Lusong Island after the environmental guidance flow, turn toward NW direction ac
The Typhoon underwent a typical “enhanced –ined – weakened” Intensity change process. During the crossing of Liu Song Island, the intensity wasined at Tropical Storm to Severe Tropical Storm level (wind speed 18-25m/s) . After going to the S sea heat zone, the system was rapidly strengthened, upgraded to Typhoon on the morning of October 15th, and reached its peak at 10 a.m. on the same day, the central minimum air pressure dropped to 960hPa, max wind to 40m/s, close to the Severe Typhoon lower limit.
Compared to previous typhoon, 2017 Khanun's peak intensity (960hPa/40m/s) between 2005 Khanun (945hPa/Severe Typhoon) and 2012 Khanun (990hPa/Tropical Storm) and weak at 2023 Khanun (935hPa/Super Typhoon) . Although its peak intensity has not reached Super Typhoon level, its rapid enhancement during the S Sea and its double Landfall path characteristics still have significant analytical value.
