Intensity evolution and historical comparison
Typhoon Rammasun rapidly intensified to its peak, maintained that strength briefly, and then weakened quickly and dissipated. Compared with other storms of the same name, the 2008 Rammasun's peak intensity of 935 hPa and 55 m/s fell between that of Rammasun in 2002, a severe typhoon with a central pressure of 950 hPa, and Rammasun in 2014, a super typhoon with a central pressure of 888 hPa. Although it did not reach the extreme intensity of its 2014 counterpart, it had a lower central pressure and stronger winds than the 2002 storm, indicating greater development potential. However, its track remained far from land and it caused no direct landfall impacts.
