Intensity evolution and historical comparison
The typhoon underwent significant rapid intensification and weakening. It initially developed as a tropical depression with winds of 12m/s, then rapidly intensified into a severe tropical storm within about 48h and reached severe typhoon status on September 28 with winds of 50m/s. After a brief plateau, the system reached peak intensity at 11:00 on October 1, with a minimum central pressure of 935hPa and maximum winds of 55m/s, making it a super typhoon. Peak conditions lasted about 12h before the intensity began dropping sharply as it approached land.
