Observation data showed that the system since August 11, 2004 at 8 a.m. on the Northwest Pacific surface (26.8°N, 158.5°E) was identified as a Tropical Storm, the overall showed a stable NE toward MovingTrend.
During the 12th to 13th August, the Typhoon center latitude continued to N up to 35.5°N, while the length E shifted significantly to 175.9°E, showing a marked turn toward feature, i.e. from the initial NMoving gradually transitioned to NE toward and even closer to the right E direction Moving.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
In terms of Intensity, Malakas 2004 showed a typical weak Tropical Cyclone characteristic. Itined the 'Tropical Storm' level throughout its lifetime, not further developed to Severe Tropical Storm or Typhoon level. Data showed that its Max Wind peak was only 20m/s, the minimum pressure was 995hPa, appeared between 02:00 on August 12th and 20:00 on August 13th, and on this Intensityined a longer Time stable state.
