Such a broad clockwise loop or reversal was relatively unusual among offshore typhoons and suggests that its track was adjusted by complex large-scale circulation. After October 28, the track turned north and then northeast, and the system finally weakened and dissipated near 167° on October 31. It made no landfall during its entire lifecycle and was mainly active over open waters.

Intensity evolution and historical comparison

Based on changes in intensity, Parma rapidly intensified, maintained its peak, weakened, and then re-intensified. The system became a Tropical Storm on October 21 and strengthened rapidly over the next three days, reaching Severe Typhoon intensity on October 24, with its minimum central pressure falling to 950hPa and maximum winds reaching 45m/s. Although the pressure rose slightly to 955hPa on October 25, wind speeds remained at 45m/s. Thereafter, its track turned and environmental factors caused its intensity to gradually weaken, dropping to Severe Tropical Storm intensity by October 27. However, the system re-intensified from October 29 to 30 and once again met Severe Typhoon criteria at 955hPa and 45m/s, indicating that it still had substantial energy exchanges late in its lifecycle. It finally weakened into a Tropical Storm on the evening of October 31, ending observations.
