Characteristics of Typhoon Nangka

Path and Moving Characteristics

From June 1 at 06 am, influenced by the peripheral guided airflow, the path began to occur a significant twist, from near SN toward to a stable NE. From the coordinate sequence can be seen, the length variation is significantly increased, from 117.5°E quickly moved to 136.8°E, the latitude is also synchronously raised from 17.9°NN to 29.4°N. Thro the process, the system has not landfall any land, is always active at sea, and eventually at June 4 at 00 am in the Northwest Pacific Ocean weakened dispersion.

Intensity Evolution and Historical Comparison

In terms of Intensity, “Nangka” underwent a typical process of “enhancing-maintaining-weakening.” From 31 May to 1 June at noon, Pressure rapidly dropped from 1006hPa to 994hPa, max wind increased from 7m/s to 20m/s, and at 1 June at 12 am upgraded to Tropical Storm. From 1 June at 18 to 2 June at 18 pm, the system reached peak intensity and remained stable, minimum pressureined at 991hPa, max wind constant at 23m/s, lasting for about 30h.

Its peak intensity is only Tropical Storm level, minimum pressure 991hPa. In comparison, 2015 'Nangka' had reached Super Typhoon level (minimum air pressure 915hPa), the destruction force is much higher than this year; 2020 and 2009 'Nangka' the minimum air pressure is respectively 988hPa, although the same as Tropical Storm or Severe Tropical Storm grade, but the air pressure value is slightly lower at 2003 system, indicating that 2003 'Nangka' in the 'Nangka' family belongs at Intensity weak, a shorter life cycle member.
