After 02:00 on December 10, the system clearly turned toward the northeast, with its longitude rapidly increasing eastward from 144.2°E to 160°E and its latitude advancing north to 29°N. This turn marked the eastward retreat or breakdown of the subtropical high's ridge, causing the steering flow to shift from easterly to southwesterly or westerly winds and pushing the typhoon into the open waters of the mid- and high-latitude North Pacific. It never made landfall and remained at sea throughout.
