The key turning point occurred from September 22 to 23. As it moved north of 27°N, the track shifted markedly to the right under the influence of the westerlies, turning from north toward the northeast and accelerating. After September 24, its forward speed increased substantially, with a much greater span in longitude and latitude, rapidly moving north from 31.8°N to 44.7°N. It ultimately became extratropical or dissipated over the seas east of Japan. Throughout its lifetime, the typhoon made no landfall and remained at sea.

By contrast, the 1999 Typhoon BART had a lower central pressure of 935hPa versus 940hPa, indicating stronger core convection and slightly greater peak intensity than its 1996 namesake. Both exhibited strong rapid intensification, but the 1999 storm maintained its peak intensity for a shorter period and transitioned more quickly into the extratropical phase at higher latitudes.
