Today's Typhoon Situation Overview

On October 25, two active tropical cyclone systems were present over the northwestern Pacific and China’s offshore waters. “CHAMPI,” which had previously affected China’s eastern coast, has weakened and gradually moved away, while newly formed typhoon “IN-FA” is developing over the open ocean. Overall, the situation is characterized by “one far away and one nearby, one weak and one strong.”

Analysis of Active Tropical Cyclones

Typhoon “CHAMPI” (202630)

At present, “CHAMPI” is located over the East China Sea (28.8°N, 124.5°E) and has weakened to tropical storm intensity, with a central pressure of 990 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 23 m/s. It is moving northeast at 25 km/h and is officially forecast to weaken into a tropical depression in the early hours of October 26. Although its intensity is declining, its outer circulation will continue to bring strong winds to the coastal areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang and the northern East China Sea. It will subsequently affect areas such as Okinawa, Japan.

Typhoon “IN-FA” (202631)

The newly formed typhoon “IN-FA” is currently located over the open ocean (11.2°N, 165.4°E), with the intensity of a severe tropical storm, a central pressure of 985 hPa, and maximum sustained winds of 25 m/s. It is moving north-northwest at 13 km/h and is expected to intensify into a super typhoon by the end of the month. The system is still far from China and currently has no direct impact.

Public Focus

Public discussion today has focused on three main areas: first, the recovery of high-speed rail and other transportation services in the Yangtze River Delta following the weakening of “CHAMPI,” as well as precautions against strong winds along the Jiangsu and Zhejiang coasts; second, the cross-border disaster impact of “CHAMPI” moving eastward across Okinawa, Japan, including fallen trees, flight cancellations, and power outages; and third, the formation of new typhoon “IN-FA,” which has drawn public attention to the trend of tropical cyclone activity over the northwestern Pacific later in the month.

Weather Defense Reminders

Coastal areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai should remain alert to strong winds brought by the residual circulation of “CHAMPI.” Vessels engaged in offshore operations should return to port and take shelter in a timely manner, and coastal tourist attractions should carry out safety inspections. Please also continue to follow the long-term development track of the distant typhoon “IN-FA.”

Weather conditions can change at any moment. Please refer to the official warnings issued by the CMA and local governments.
