Today's Typhoon Situation Overview

Two active tropical cyclone systems are currently present over the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Typhoon No. 30 of this year, “CHAMPI,” is gradually approaching the coast of East China and Taiwan, China, bringing significant wind and rainfall. Meanwhile, this year's Typhoon No. 31, “IN-FA,” has formed over the open ocean and has strong potential for further development.

Analysis of Active Tropical Cyclones

Typhoon “CHAMPI” (202630)

At present, “CHAMPI” is located over the ocean to the east-southeast of Taipei, Taiwan, China. It is at typhoon intensity, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 38 m/s and a central pressure of 965 hPa. The system is moving north-northeast at 20 km/h. Under its influence, Taiwan, China, and coastal areas of East China, including Zhejiang and Shanghai, are expected to experience significant wind and rainfall. According to official forecasts, “CHAMPI” will gradually weaken, reaching the ocean south of Japan on the evening of the 26th before weakening into a tropical depression.

Typhoon “IN-FA” (202631)

The newly formed Typhoon “IN-FA” is currently located over the open ocean. It is at tropical storm intensity, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 18 m/s and a central pressure of 1,000 hPa. It is moving slowly west-northwest at 7 km/h. The system is expected to intensify significantly in the future, with official forecasts indicating that it will develop into a super typhoon by the morning of the 29th. “IN-FA” is still far from China and will not have a direct impact on the country for the time being.

Public Opinion and Areas of Public Interest

Based on meteorological information from various regions, the public is currently focused on three main aspects:

First, efforts to prepare for strong winds and heavy rain along the coast of East China. Numerous parts of Zhejiang and some areas of Shanghai have issued blue and yellow typhoon warnings, while the period of strongest wind and rainfall has been extended in some areas due to the circulation of “CHAMPI.”

Second, extreme weather in Taiwan, China. In addition to typhoon warnings over land and at sea, Hualien and Taitung have experienced foehn winds caused by the typhoon's outer subsidence, bringing extreme heat and posing a significant challenge.

Finally, the formation of the new Typhoon “IN-FA” has drawn considerable public attention to whether it will affect China's coastal areas in the future and what its subsequent track will be.

Meteorological Safety Advice

Residents along the coast of East China and in Taiwan, China, should closely monitor the latest typhoon developments, minimize outdoor activities, and stay away from hazardous areas such as the seashore and mountainous regions. Some parts of Taiwan should be prepared for heat relief and the risk of fires caused by foehn winds. Vessels on long-distance ocean voyages should avoid the waters that “IN-FA” may pass through.
