Today's Typhoon Situation Overview

On the evening of October 8, multiple weather systems remained active over the northwestern Pacific. Although the sea displayed the spectacular sight of three typhoons spinning simultaneously, their generally eastward tracks mean that they are not expected to directly affect China’s territorial waters in the foreseeable future. Coastal areas may continue with normal precautions.

Analysis of Active Typhoons

Typhoon No. 28, “NOLO”

At present, “NOLO” remains a severe tropical storm, with its center located over the northwestern Pacific at 27.5°N, 153°E. Its minimum central pressure is 980 hPa, and its maximum sustained wind speed is 30 m/s. The system is moving west-northwest at 20 km/h. According to the official forecast, it will weaken to a tropical storm by the afternoon of the 11th, reaching a position near 36.1°N, 153.8°E. It will mainly remain over waters east of Japan.

Typhoon No. 29, “KOGUMA”

“KOGUMA” is also a severe tropical storm, with its center located at 17.4°N, 159.7°E. Its central pressure is 980 hPa, and its maximum sustained wind speed is 30 m/s. It is moving slightly faster at 24 km/h, also toward the west-northwest. By the afternoon of the 13th, “KOGUMA” is expected to intensify to typhoon strength, with its center reaching a position near 30.5°N, 146.7°E. It is also expected to gradually approach waters south of Japan.

Public Focus

Recently, the public has shown strong interest in the concentration of multiple typhoon systems near Japan. Across major news platforms, the central question has been whether this rare “three-typhoon convergence” could cause a sudden shift in their tracks and consequently affect China’s coastal areas. Meteorological authorities have issued a clear conclusion to address this concern: “CHOI-WAN,” “NOLO,” and “KOGUMA” are all expected to have no impact on China’s territorial waters, effectively easing public concern.

Autumn Typhoon Safety Reminders

Although the current round of typhoons will not directly affect China, October remains an active period for autumn typhoons. Vessels operating in the affected waters are urged to monitor distant oceanic conditions and changes in wind and waves closely, and to take timely measures to avoid risks. Coastal residents should continue to follow the evolution of subsequent weather systems and remain well prepared.
