Overview of Today's Typhoon Situation
On the evening of August 8, typhoon activity in the Northwest Pacific was frequent. This year's 13th typhoon, "DOLPHIN," has become the absolute protagonist of the current weather stage, approaching the coastal areas of East China with strong winds and heavy rain, bringing severe wind and rain challenges to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Fujian, and other regions. Meanwhile, the 15th typhoon, "CHAN-HOM," is active in the distant seas and currently has no direct impact on China's coastal waters.
Analysis of Active Typhoon Dynamics
Typhoon "DOLPHIN" (Severe Typhoon Level)
Currently, the center of "DOLPHIN" is located over the sea near 26.9°N, 125.1°E, with a minimum central pressure of 950 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 45 m/s. It is moving west-northwest at 11 km/h, heading straight for the coast of the East China Sea. Affected by it, the coastal areas of East China and parts of Fujian will face severe wind and rain侵袭. According to official track forecasts, after affecting the coast, the typhoon will gradually move inland and is expected to weaken into a tropical depression in the afternoon of the 12th in the border area between Anhui and Henan provinces (32.63°N, 115.63°E).
Typhoon "CHAN-HOM" (Tropical Storm Level)
"CHAN-HOM" is currently located in the distant seas at 33.1°N, 155°E, with a central pressure of 998 hPa and maximum wind speeds of 18 m/s. It is moving west-northwest at 21 km/h. It is expected to weaken into a tropical depression in the afternoon of the 12th in the waters south of Japan (37.6°N, 135.6°E) and will have no direct impact on China in the future.
Public Sentiment and Focus of Attention
As "DOLPHIN" approaches step by step, flood control and typhoon prevention work across various regions has been fully upgraded. The public is most concerned about emergency measures such as work suspensions, transport halts, and shipping suspensions in the coastal areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Fujian. News such as the suspension of Shanghai ferry services and the closure of scenic spots in many places has attracted widespread attention. In addition, the variable path of "DOLPHIN" pointed out by meteorological departments and the phenomenon of the typhoon "closing its eye" have become hot topics. Experts remind that the "eye closing" of a typhoon belongs to the eyewall replacement cycle process and does not mean a weakening of intensity; the public should not lower their guard because of this.
Meteorological Defense Tips
The coastal areas of East China and many places in Fujian are currently in the period of strongest wind and rain impact. Residents in relevant areas are advised to minimize going out, properly secure outdoor items susceptible to being blown away by wind, and stay away from dangerous areas such as billboards and temporary structures. Coastal workers and passing vessels must strictly comply with typhoon prevention regulations and return to port in time to take shelter from the wind.
